Meet the counselor, Melanie Campbell

I am a Cullman native and attended Dowling Junior High and Cold Springs High School. I have worked in the counseling field since 2002 in both inpatient and outpatient mental health and substance use treatment settings. Since establishing my private practice in 2005, I have remained committed to providing ethical, compassionate, and individualized care to every client.

Outside the office, I enjoy spending time outdoors, kayaking, riding the side-by-side or motorcycle, traveling, attending car shows, shopping, and relaxing with my family, friends, and pets.

1. How do I know if counseling is right for me?

Counseling can be helpful for anyone experiencing emotional distress, relationship difficulties, major life changes, or simply feeling stuck or overwhelmed. You do not have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Counseling provides a confidential, supportive environment to better understand yourself, develop healthier coping skills, and work toward meaningful change.

2. What can I expect at my first counseling session?

Your first session is an opportunity to discuss what brings you to counseling, your current concerns, relevant history, and what you hope to accomplish through therapy. We will begin identifying your needs and goals and discuss recommendations for moving forward. It is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and determine whether counseling feels like a good fit for you.

3. How often will I need to attend counseling?

The frequency of counseling depends on your individual needs, the severity of your symptoms, your treatment goals, and practical considerations such as scheduling and finances. Some clients benefit from weekly sessions initially, while others may attend less frequently. Session frequency can be adjusted throughout treatment as your needs change.

4. How long will I need to attend counseling?

There is no set length of time for counseling. Some clients achieve their goals within a relatively short period, while others benefit from longer-term support. The length of treatment depends on your concerns, goals, circumstances, progress, and the steps you take towards your goals between sessions.

5. Do you accept insurance?

TurnAround Counseling Services currently accepts Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama. Self-pay is also available at a rate of $150 per session. Insurance benefits and coverage vary by plan, so benefits are verified prior to scheduling. Clients are responsible for any applicable copays, deductibles, coinsurance, or services not covered by their insurance plan.
